Personal Statement relating to textiles and your interest in TSA: My love for textiles began at age 7 in front of the television. My mother handed me a pair of needles and taught me to knit and purl, which I continued to do obsessively watching Mary Poppins for the millionth time. At 13 I started mending and adjusting my clothes, creating my prom dresses and teenage necessities. I was sold, still unknowingly, on my love for textiles and a drive to be sure these skills are not lost among younger generations. While my experience in co-founding and directing Textile Arts Center for six years speaks to my dedication to textile education and creating platforms for discussing the many facets of the field, my desire to join the TSA lies in taking an understanding of organizational challenges and applying them in a new way. I hope to aid, however I can, in sustainably supporting TSA’s current and future endeavors to disseminate information and provide access to textiles for people of all ages and backgrounds.
