Bio
Amanda Raquel Dorval is a Middle Eastern Studies graduate student at New York University. Originally from Queens, New York, Dorval is a Nuyorican-Dominican artist, library professional, and anti-war veteran who served seven years in the US Air Force as an Arabic linguist. Dorval is interested in the interconnections between Puerto Rico and the Islamic world, specifically in an exploration of the legacy of the Islamic world on the visual culture of the Puerto Rican archipelago and Nuyorican diaspora.
Dorval will be presenting Disfraces Rebeldes: Reimagining Puerto Rican Identity Through a Practice-Led Project on the Interconnections Between the Vejigante and the Islamic World during TSA’s 2023 Colloquium.
