We are thrilled to welcome Malene Djenaba Barnett

We are thrilled to welcome Malene Djenaba Barnett (@malene.barnett) as the keynote speaker for the 2026 TSA Fall Colloquium: (re)Generation: Fibers of Resilience & Renewal.

An award-winning multidisciplinary artist, textile surface designer, author, and community builder, Malene’s practice explores her Caribbean heritage alongside the visual languages of African and diasporic architecture, textiles, and material culture. Working across ceramics, textiles, collage, research, and writing, she investigates the histories, relationships, and creative traditions that shape Black diasporic aesthetics.

Malene is the founder of the Black Artists + Designers Guild (@badguild) and the author of Crafted Kinship: Inside the Creative Practice of Contemporary Black Caribbean Makers (2024), a groundbreaking collection celebrating the work and creative practices of more than sixty contemporary Black Caribbean artists.
