Join SUDESTADA this weekend for a special family communal braiding ceremony with Venezuelan textile artist Cassandra Mayel Allen
When: Sunday, May 18th | 3 to 5pm
Where: 67 West St., Brooklyn – Studio 513
The event is open to everyone, all ages! Bring your kids, besties, parents and lovers for a special afternoon. We will provide bites and drinks, but you are open to bring your own and don’t forget to bring scissors.
These series of gatherings and workshops are part of Allen’s “Braided Prayers/Rezados Trenzados”, a participatory project that invites individuals to engage in collective meditation, braiding their belongings as offerings to the future. These intimate, personal gestures are then woven together by the artist, forming larger, community-driven kinetic installations, each braid symbolizing shared hopes and stories.
