FITE- 2024 Biennale Textile: "Play"

FITE – Textile Biennial

City of Clermont- Ferran, France

A festive opening week from July 2 to 7; a programme of exhibitions throughout the summer until September 22; and two exhibitions at the musée Bargoin and the musée d’art Roger-Quilliot until January 12, 2025.

2024 Theme: PLAY

FITE chose the theme “PLAY” because play is a separate space and time, outside of everyday life, with its own rules and its own limits, which encourages us to explore other modes of relating to ourselves, to others and to the environment. It is the production of pleasure, educational value, emancipatory energy, exercise of reason and strategy. It promotes creativity, problem solving, divergent thinking and the development of new ideas.
The central exhibition at the Bargoin Museum adopts the principle of playing and “playing with the rules”; those of presentation, those of “truth” and “knowledge”. It offers artists the museum as a playground, within which everyone plays in their own way and reveals something about our contemporary societies.

Through its topic, PLAY, the 7th edition of the FITE, invites you to open up, at the time of the 2024’s Olympics Games, to the notion of game, casualness, collaboration, pleasure, challenge and hope. It’s an encouragement to take another path and to develop a different look on fundamental issues that push and revitalise our contemporary society: environmental crisis, our relationship with digital technologies, questions about equality and identity, postcolonial challenges, knowing how to live and work together. The Biennial’s curators have invited the Sesc São Paulo team to suggest Brazilian artists, generating exchanges, comparative approaches and a creative and artistic synergy between French and Brazilian participants.

For this edition, the FITE presents: 18 exhibitions, including 15 in Clermont- Ferrand, 4 in associated programming and 3 in Cervières, Retournac and Lyon, thanks to the artworks of 50 artists, designers and heritage collections of 32 different nationalities.
