In this workshop, discover the potential of warp ikat based on the Gujarati binding method. Historical examples of ikat found in global digital archives will spark inspiration. Students will experiment with designs and complete a study warp as they learn the process, including preparing cellulose fibers for natural dyeing and back-to-front loom setup. This will be followed by a more complex, self-directed project exploring design, color, pattern, expression, and weave structure, with guidance as needed. Experienced weavers can push the design potential of warp ikat and woven designs. All students will be guided in every step of the process as they weave two cotton ikat warps.
