Throughout history, Anatolia has always been a key area for dyeing due to its unique location, when compared with other textile cultural hubs, and the richness of its weaving culture, natural resources and diverse geography. In this program, chemical engineer and rug historian Deniz Coşkun will discuss the history of dyeing in Türkiye, and illustrate the actual organic and mineral source materials and how they are combined in different ways to make a very large variety of colors. He will also show many of the historical rugs and textiles where these classic colors and variations were used, and their local cultural significance.
