Featherstone Center for the Arts in Martha’s Vineyard is delighted to announce our upcoming exhibition, “Rising Up!: A Multi-Cultural Celebration of Stitched Fine Art,” which will be held from June 23rd to July 21st, 2024, in our Francine Kelly Gallery. We are pleased to share the show catalogue, which details the artists’ stories and the philosophies that propel their work.
The exhibit celebrates a diversity of artists, some working in fiber arts, some as art quilters, some creating with mixed media, all tied together by their use of stitch: a mark maker, a structural element, a decoration, a central focus, or a juxtaposition that boundaries otherwise light, ethereal work, or the sense of urgency regarding contemporary social issues. The exhibit pushes the boundaries of the art world’s definitions of “painting”, “sculpture”, “quilt”, “fiber art”, and design of all kinds.
The opening for the exhibition will take place on June 23rd, 2024 from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm. We look forward to seeing you there!
