Material Dialogues invites us to consider the role art and artists have in addressing the larger issues of our time. Speakers will explore ideas around textile’s inherent capacity for narrative. We will explore the dialogue between cloth and social engagement; investigate the uses of textiles as a vehicle for the cultural exchange of ideas; and discuss the role of the artist in this dialogue.
Speakers include keynote Elissa Author, Michael O, Jovencio de la Paz, and Teju Adisa-Farrar. Sunday we’ll offer a Textile Sketchbook workshop from artist Barbara Bryn Klare. Our intention is to create a weekend that challenges and inspires us in our own practice, expands our understanding of what is possible and what is necessary, and as always, signals Los Angeles’ leadership as an artistically rich, cross-cultural, intellectually rigorous textile landscape.
Material Dialogues is the capstone event of Textile Month Los Angeles, a month-long celebration of textiles throughout Southern California.
