Conservation through Poverty Alleviation International (cpali.org) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that takes a new approach to community-centered conservation. Through locally led initiatives in Madagascar they enhance biodiversity, create opportunities for women through nature-based enterprise (tananasilk.com), and accelerate local innovations with the potential to restore landscapes and help lift families out of poverty. CPALI partners with a local organization in northeastern Madagascar called Sehatry ny Mpamokatra Landy Ifotony (Organization of Wild Silk Producers). Together, their organizations founded a nature-based social enterprise to help raise sustainable income for local initiatives. They recently showcased Fair Trade and Certified Wildlife Friendly Madagascar wild silk and raffia at the Future Fabrics Expo in Manhattan alongside other emerging sustainable materials.
