About the Talk
How can historical documents and oral traditions help piece together the history of Cabo Verdean textiles? Join Dr. Maggy Fragoso, a 2026 Textile Society of America Research Travel Grant recipient, for a virtual talk exploring historical textiles, traditional handweaving techniques, and connections between Cabo Verde and Guinea-Bissau. Drawing on archival research, fieldwork, and conversations with weavers, Fragoso shares new insights into the development of Cabo Verdean textile traditions and their place within the broader history of West African weaving.
This event is free and open to all.
Support TSA’s Work
TSA’s programs connect people with the knowledge, histories, and cultural significance of textiles. Contributions from our community help sustain these opportunities for learning, exchange, and the recognition of important work in textile scholarship and cultural heritage.
If you are able, we invite you to make a contribution to support TSA’s ongoing programs and mission. Every gift makes a difference, and donations are entirely optional.
