Frank Stella’s Diné (Navajo) Textile Collection: Exhibition & Panel Talk

A rare exhibition is now on view at Peter Pap Rugs in Dublin, New Hampshire: Frank Stella’s personal collection of Diné (Navajo) textiles – June 20 - July 15, 2026. This exhibition offers what may be the final public opportunity to see these historic weavings together before they move into private hands. The collection brings together exceptional Navajo textiles that speak not only to the rich artistic traditions of Diné weaving, but also to the visual language of abstraction that shaped generations of artists, including Stella himself. As a timely closing program, Peter Pap Rugs will host a public talk on Sunday, July 12, bringing together three leading scholars and museum professionals: • Jill Ahlberg Yohe, Ph.D., Curator, Cafesjian Art Trust Museum • Jami Powell, Associate Director for Curatorial Affairs and Curator of Indigenous Art, Hood Museum of Art, Dartmouth College • Ann Lane Hedlund, Ph.D., noted author, cultural anthropologist, and internationally recognized authority on Navajo and Indigenous textile traditions Together, they will discuss Navajo weaving, Indigenous aesthetics, the relationship between Native American textiles and modern American abstraction, and the ways museums today are rethinking the presentation and interpretation of Indigenous art. At a moment when institutions across the country are reassessing how Native American art is collected, exhibited, and understood, this exhibition and accompanying conversation offer a rare chance to engage with the artistic and cultural significance of Stella’s collection before the works disperse.
