OAXACA HANDMADE
Oaxaca City, the Central Valley & Mixteca Highlands
November 30 – December 9, 2026
This is a special and unique opportunity to explore Oaxacan textiles—both traditional and contemporary—with an exceptional guide. Ana Paula Fuentes was the founding director of the Textile Museum of Oaxaca and she has deep, personal connections in the artisan world. In addition to being an authority on textiles from the area, she is a warm, generous host who will make you fall in love with Oaxaca! What sets this tour apart is our journey off the beaten track to visit remote Indigenous communities in the highlands of Western Oaxaca. We will visit Trique and Mixtec villages where women still make and wear beautiful, traditional textiles. In Oaxaca City, we'll visit contemporary studios to get a full picture of handmade textiles today. Highlights include meeting Remigio Mestas Revilla, founder of Baules de Juana Cata, and textile designer and artist Maddalena Forcella. A 3-day natural-dyeing workshop in Teotitlán del Valle is also available as an optional post-tour extension.
