Surface Design Association will hold its biennial conference, Making Our Mark: SDA at 40, in Portland, Oregon, August 3-6, 2017. As part of the conference, OCAC will be hosting an exhibition honoring SDA’s 40th Anniversary.
In creating a vision for this exhibition, curator Jane Sauer comments, “my desire is to highlight the work of the great mentors that laid the ground work for what is happening today, mid-career artists, and a look into what the future holds by showing the work of a few emerging artists.”
A reception will take place 4-6pm, Saturday, August 5, during the conference. Participating artists are James Bassler, Lia Cook, John Garrett, Michael James, Glenn Kaufman, Gerhardt Knodel, Jack Lenor Larsen, Anna Carlson, Vic De La Rosa, Karen Hampton, Mark Newport, Julie Sirek, Aaron McIntosh, Nicole Benner, Rena Detrixhe, Molly Koehn, Aram Han Sifuentes, Lauren Sinner, Jodi Stevens, Andrea Vail, and Anel Zarate. Their work covers a wide range of media and approaches and represents a small sampling of what is a rich history and future. Jane Sauer’s career includes being a full time artist and operating the Jane Sauer Gallery, which focuses on fiber art, in Santa Fe. She is currently a freelance curator and consultant.
