Exposure. Cosmogony- Textile Art Exhibition
At the Textile and Fashion Museum – Cholet, France
In this exhibition, artist Kirsten Maria Birk offers a vision of the world steeped in mythology, where living things and nature are omnipresent. Part of her inspiration is drawn from her Danish and Canadian origins, and she invites the viewer to enter into an astonishing conception of the world. She thus leads the viewer into an organic universe, where imaginary landscapes and animals are the support of their emotions.
Numerous textile techniques, which the artist sometimes invents, are used to create a singular and delicate work. This is how she appropriates meticulously chosen materials and shapes them in meticulous, long and repetitive work. She utilizes her family’s clothes, which carry meaning, and transform them to exorcise the sorrow. Kirsten Maria Birk thus offers a captivating, moving work of textile art.
