Explore dyeing natural wool hues with natural dye materials. This workshop will transform your kitchen into a dye studio to achieve wool that has rich saturated hues. Experiment with Osage and Madder for intense oranges, brilliant yellows and rich reds. Explore garden plants and flowers that you have on hand like marigolds and cosmos. The knowledge you gain will enable you to produce custom pallets for your fiber arts for years to come. Learn best practices for dyeing from Professor Emerita of textile design at the University of Nebraska, Wendy Weiss. Sessions will cover theory and provide time for experimentation.
Please Note: Natural dyeing is a time intensive process. Participants will be asked to complete some work between the first session and second session on their own, in preparation for dyeing during the second session. Following the second session participants will be advised of the final rinse steps for their dyed yarn. A supply kit will be mailed to participants ahead of the class that includes naturally colored wool yarn, mordant and additional natural dyes along with a hand-out. Participants will also need to have the following on hand for the class: PARTICIPANT MATERIAL LIST
