Textile Society of America’s Graduation Gathering
Classes of ‘21 and ‘20

Join the Textile Society of America (TSA) in their first ever “Graduation Gathering” event to celebrate the classes of 2021 and 2020. This event is open to all recent graduates of textile/fiber, fine arts, design/fashion, conservation, art history, and apprenticeships. You do not need to be a member of TSA to attend; if you love textiles, please join us in celebrating your shared accomplishments in the fiber world.
The program has been created in recognition of the complicated year many students have faced – from cancelled thesis shows, to the transition to online learning, and financial challenges. TSA would like to welcome you into the wider textile and fiber world, and acknowledge the amount of labor and perseverance, in particularly unusual times, that these graduates have undertaken and accomplished, especially at such a formative period in their lives. Most importantly, TSA would like to become a greater part of the support system that lets emerging textile folks know that they are seen and valued.
“Graduation Gathering” is part of an initiative to provide greater support and mentorship to recent art/design graduates which includes the newly formed “Emerging Artists, Professionals, and Scholars” affinity group. To find out more, please email emerging@textilesocietyofamerica.org
Program Details:
During the program you will be formally welcomed by current TSA President, Melinda Watt, followed by a keynote address from artist Indira Allegra.
We will then speak with a panel of artists, scholars, and other art professionals who have graduated within the last ten years, reflecting on the transition to life post-graduation and the advice they wish they’d received then and how they navigated the path forward.
From there, we will form breakout groups to get to know each other, sharing stories and experiences with fellow graduates from across the nation.
We will end the program by coming back together in the main room to say goodbye, and you’ll hear about the newly formed TSA affinity group for emerging artists, professionals, and scholars.
