The Legend of the Looms Open Day
1 February // 12.30pm – 4.45pm GMT // Blackburn Museum and Art Gallery// Free Admission!
Join us for a free, family-friendly event celebrating the launch of The Legend of the Looms at Blackburn Museum and Art Gallery, in partnership with British Textile Biennial. Blackburn Museum is a gem of history and culture, a train ride from London and Birmingham, and a trot from Manchester.
You’ll be thrown into the day’s events from 12pm onwards with the premiere of the film, followed by a talk with Ali Al Jamri where you can ask him all your burning questions about poetry, textiles and the backstory to his unique and inspired performance! Then, attendees of all ages will have the chance to learn basic weaving skills with textile artist Ibukun Baldwin, who made some of the textiles in the film and installation. Using recycled materials and classic weaving techniques, we will all get together and weave a new collaborative art piece before the end of the day!
