Are you an artist looking for a meaningful residency in the quiet hills of Appalachia? Be a part of the Appalachian Forest Stewardship Residency in its pilot year. Running from November 6 – November 12, 2019 this short residency will allow for reflection time and action time as you help restore Ohio’s forests. The Appalachian Forest Art Residency is based on the idea that meaning is derived from that which we build with our hands.
Individuals or groups of 2-3 are encouraged to apply with projects that address issues around the relationship between humans and nature. In exchange for 12-16 hours/week volunteer hours the artist receives lodging, time and space to develop new work at no cost. There are no studio spaces per se—artists working in all media are encouraged to apply but the residency is more suited for reflection/ideation time rather than making large objects.
Terrain can be steep and applicants should expect physical work for up to four hours at a time. Residents are housed in the Beechcliff Retreat Center located 1.5 hours from Cincinnati and Columbus, Ohio.
