The Barnsdall Arts Center (BAC) is seeking Fiber Art Instructors to teach needlework and/or textile surface design for adults and are able to commit to teaching for 2 sessions. The ideal candidates are not only knowledgeable in an array of textile art techniques but have experience and interest in teaching in a community setting.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited:
● Design curriculum & lesson plans with an emphasize in sewing, knitting/crochet, batik, and/or indigo/dyeing processes
● Supervise Fiber Art Area which includes general upkeep of equipment & tools
● Keep stock of fiber art materials
● Instruct adults in both 2D and 3D composition & construction
● Demonstrate different fiber art techniques
● Teach students how to analyze work and build visual literacy skills through art critiques/discussions
● Prepare student work for semi-annual exhibitions
Qualifications:
● Friendly and engaging with students of all backgrounds
● Vast knowledge and experience in sewing techniques and/or dye processes
● Experience teaching adults & seniors (62+)
● Excellent verbal and written communication skills
● Ability to enforce program and studio policies
● Experience with 3D fiber art processes a plus
● Attending semi-quarterly teaching artist meetings
● Able to lift up to 25 pounds
Requirements:
● Bachelor’s degree or higher education and/or a minimum of two years of experience working as an art instructor in a classroom/group environment with adults and/or seniors
● Able to work evenings and some weekends
● Must have valid California Driver’s license with reliable form of transportation
Physical Requirement: Must be able to stand for extended periods; sit for extended periods; climb up and down stairs; bend, stoop, and lift to move and retrieve materials; pull, push, and lift up to 25 pounds. COVID-19 REQUIREMENTS

Weekly Schedule: TBD within the schedule of Monday – Friday, 10 am – 9:30 pm, and/or Saturdays from 9 am – 4:30 pm
Total Hours per Week: Teaching one to two classes per week plus compensation for class prep, meetings, trainings, and culminating events, rehearsals as needed
Session for 2024
● Winter / Spring Sessions : February ~ May. ( 6~ 8 weeks )
● Summer Session : July ~ August ( 4~6 weeks )
● Fall Session : September ~ November ( 10 weeks )
