The editor oversees the online publication of the 2024 Symposium Proceedings. All papers presented at the Symposia are eligible for publication. Transcripts of panel discussions and other presentations are also eligible for publication. This is a contract position with a $3,000 (USD) honorarium. The anticipated time commitment for the contract is between 60-80 hours. The editor reports to the TSA executive director. The symposium chair and members of the planning committee are available in an advisory capacity. This is a remote position. Start date: December 2024.
About the Proceedings
The Proceedings are composed of papers presented at the Textile Society of America Symposia, and are published approximately six months after each symposium.The Proceedings are available for free through on-line open access Digital Commons, through a partnership with the University of Lincoln, Nebraska. The Proceedings have a wide international readership. To date the Proceedings include 1,187 papers with 1,748,130 total downloads as of the end of October, 2024. Papers are available as PDF downloads.

Tasks and responsibilities
- Publish the Symposium Proceedings in a timely manner
- Prepare author guidelines including citation style, footnotes, illustrations, and other publication guidelines. Guidelines should reflect TSA’s anti-racism and equity mission in addition to respecting academic publishing conventions
- Prepare and update formatting guidelines and ensure submitted papers are received in a consistent format for publication (past guidelines are available)
- Establish a system for receiving manuscripts (google drive, etc.)
- Receive and review manuscripts from presenters
- Create PDFs of all papers and transcripts for publication
- Liaise with authors as needed, provide editorial guidance and respond to inquiries
- Liaise with UNB digital archives to digitally publish the Proceedings
- Other responsibilities associated with leading and publishing the Proceedings
Qualifications
- Relevant editorial experience
- Relevant experience with academic writing, including authored publications (does not have to be in a peer-reviewed journal)
- Experience in academic publishing and/or editing (does not have to be in a peer-reviewed journal)
- The editor should be a TSA member
- Familiarity with the Mission and vision of the Textile Society of America; participation in a TSA Symposium is desired
- Knowledge of textiles including textile art, histories, and cultures; an understanding of current scholarship and topics of contemporary interest
- Experience working with Google documents, PDF documents, and Word documents
- Empathy, generosity, and the ability to mentor emerging authors
- Ability to adhere to deadlines
