The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco is seeking a Fixed-Term Administrative Assistant to work in The Caroline and H. McCoy Department of Textile Arts. Under the supervision of the Associate Curator of Costume and Textile Arts, the administrative assistant provides support to the curatorial staff for the day-to-day operation of the costume and textile arts department. Assists curatorial staff in all areas, including administrative tasks, collections records, research for exhibitions and publications, loans, and general curatorial inquiries.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities:
- Participates in the day-to-day administrative operations of the department, including assisting with correspondence, in-house actions required for the permanent collection’s maintenance and exhibition preparation.
- Facilitates research visits of colleagues from the broader museum/academic community.
- Works with the Registration Department to ensure proper documentation of collection and assists curators with maintenance of the department’s object, exhibition, and research files.
- Assists with the creation and execution of programming and outreach for the department, working closely with colleagues in Education and Marketing.
- Assists with monitoring activities on the art market, the auction houses, and private dealers.
- Works with Curators in the preparation of exhibitions and related educational materials.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in art history, costume and/or textiles history, anthropology (or a closely related discipline).
Work Experience: 1-2 years of administrative support experience, curatorial experience or other relevant museum experience.
Skills and Abilities:
- Specialized knowledge in either textile or costume history is a plus.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), Google suite, TMS, and other standard computer programs.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a willingness to be part of a team.
- Demonstrated customer service orientation.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Excellent research skills with the ability to conduct directed and independent research.
- Ability to work simultaneously on multiple projects in a demanding and fast-paced work environment.
- Flexibility in meeting shifting demands and priorities.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Possesses a high level of initiative and energy.
Step 1 of the pay range is $22.10 per hour.
This is a fixed-term union position with a duration of six (6) months, eligible for the Museums’ benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance plus a generous time off package.
