Brief summary of this position:
The Head of Weaving has as a primary responsibility the direction of the day-to-day operations of Weaving. Working in cooperation with the Director of Berea College Student Craft, the Head of Weaving insures that students are inspired and engaged in the experiential nature of Weaving. As an active design and production environment, the Head of Weaving has responsibility for both student education in weaving processes and managing necessary production schedules to meet customer demand/budgetary requirements. The Head of Weaving is expected to engage in hands-on production of both Weaving’s production line and special projects as a requirement of this position. The Head of Weaving understands and implements standard OSHA safety regulations and guides the safe flow of work in Weaving. The Head of Weaving is responsible for all raw material, supply, equipment and purchase requisitions, as well as developing the knowledge to follow a TOC Supply buffer process. In association with the Director, the
Head of Weaving meets with potential product clients and assists them in making choices related to materials, design and processes. The Head of Weaving is directly involved in the design of new items.
Minimum Qualifications Required:
Education required to ensure success in this position:
•High School diploma or equivalent required
•Bachelor Degree in Studio Art/Weaving, or related field preferred
Experience required to ensure success in this position:
•3+ years production/studio weaving and supervisory experience preferred
Special skills, knowledge and abilities:
•Knowledge of and experience in weaving techniques and processes.
•Knowledge of the textile industry; i.e. fabrics, colors, and pattern designs. .
•Knowledge of OSHA as related to this department.
License, certification, or registration necessary:
•Valid Driver’s License
Physical requirements:
•Some lifting required
•Substantial repetitive movement, especially upper body
Environmental conditions:
•Fabric lint/textile dust and noise exposure from loom work
Ability to operate the following vehicles or equipment:
•Vehicle
•Hand looms, sewing machines, fly-shuttle, bobbin winders.
•Compu-dobby loom and Melco embroidery experience a plus

•Inspires, trains, evaluates and supervises student workers within the Weaving production area.
•Primary responsibilities for the day-to-day operations of Weaving’s Production items including…
•Required to manage monthly production schedules.
•Prepares all supply and material requisitions
•Follows OSHA guidelines for safety in workshop
•Assist with design, develop and prototype new products for production
•Works with clients on custom design and production for weaving
•Required to engage in personal production as a part of overall monthly transfer.
•Required to complete or coordinate all needed maintenance and repair of weaving equipment.
•Provides assistance to campus community on special projects/needs as requested or appropriate.
· In support of Berea College’s great commitments this position requires student supervision.
