As with many organizations, The Textile Society of America finds itself in a period of transition and seeks to take this time to create intentional, sustainable structures that foster organizational growth grounded in values of anti-racism, inclusion, and equity. One critical element of such a structure is the Executive Director role. We are searching for an Interim Executive Director to provide clarity in this shifting moment for a future of equity and inclusion based on anti-racist approaches.
Position Summary
Role of the TSA Interim Executive Director
- Provide stabilization to an organization with multiple changes that affect the operation of the organization
- Review organizational structure and provide recommendations
- Define expectations for an Executive Director, Board President, and Board Members. This will include strategic goal setting for each role, implementation tasks for each role, and defining responsibilities for each position. Delineation of administrative tasks will be necessary. All strategic goals will be grounded by the inclusion of historically marginalized perspectives and will be applicable across the diverse disciplines of our members
- Develop a transition plan that engages and develops consensus in a shared vision from key stakeholders
- Maintenance of routine operations
- This position is needed for approximately 6 to 9 months
Responsibilities
Develop an organizational strategy after full review of Textile Society of America history and documents, discussions with all Board Members and interested members.
- Documents include TSA mission and diversity statements, by-laws, history, committee structures, reports and related plans.
The organizational strategy must be positioned on core values of anti-racism; equity and inclusion ensuring that organizational leadership, culture, policies, and programs will be based on the inclusion of marginalized voices and perspectives in any decisions or adoption of policies and practices.
The Interim Executive Director will oversee the routine business activities of the organization including:
- Review existing job descriptions for Executive Director and Board Members and will advise on revisions/updates to descriptions and functions of these roles
- Assess TSA’s staffing needs
- Attend to membership needs
- Provide guidance and implementation support to the communications component of the organization
- Work with the Treasurer and appropriate board members/committees to provide necessary inputs for the organization budget
- Manage the organization’s programs – ongoing and new
- Work with committees to implement appropriate goals and timelines to completion
- Engage with community groups that support the organization
- Ensure TSA Board is fully aware of — and trained in — fiduciary, personnel, voting responsibilities and confidentiality policies
Skill Set:
Required:
- 3-6 years Executive Director experience necessary. Experience in non-profit organizations focused on membership and/or direct service is preferred
- Experience in building inclusive and equitable structures
- Interpersonal intelligence and practice
- Motivational and empathetic project management is a plus
- Demonstrated experience working effectively and meaningfully with nonprofit board members
Preferred
- In-depth knowledge of non-profit finances and fiduciary responsibilities
- Public-facing skills such as public speaking, marketing, and messaging to disparate groups
- Experience with Learned Societies/Associations with national/international scope

Compensation:
Commensurate with experience, hourly rate of $35-$60/hour
