The Fine Arts Center is seeking a teaching artist for a Long-Term Substitute position in the Fiber Arts Studio.

– AM Class – 9:15 am – 11:05 am
– Admin/Class Prep – 11:05 am – 1:25 pm
– PM Class – 1:25 pm – 3:15 pm
Recommended Qualifications:
● Master of Fine Arts in Fiber, Textiles, or Fashion Design (or closely related field)
● Exhibition Record
● Minimum of three years of teaching experience (preferably at the college level)
● Ability to instruct a wide variety of fiber/textile/fashion techniques including but not limited to: sewing, pattern-drafting, draping, weaving, basketry, felting, crochet, etc.
● Experience maintaining a fiber studio including dye kitchen, sewing equipment, weaving looms, etc.
● Proficiency in maintaining computer lab, Adobe Creative Suite, and large-format printer
● Experience in photo documentation, video, new media technology, and / or related software
● Experience in working with AP Studio Arts, guiding students through the requirements and the portfolio submission process
● Ability to foster student success, by showing flexibility in style and delivery methods
Major Responsibilities:
● Teaching gifted and talented high school students (two two-hour classes per day) in a well-established fiber program.
● Advise and prepare students for post-secondary study in visual arts
● Maintaining a well-equipped fiber studio that includes: sewing machines, dye kitchen, darkroom, table looms, printers, scanners, and basic studio materials, etc.
● Provide solid instruction in fiber techniques, design concepts, idea development, research, portfolio presentation, and sketchbook practice.
● Help students submit, prepare, and pack artwork for internal and external exhibitions opportunities.
● Take an active role in the Visual Arts Department in close coordination with instructors of Drawing/Painting, Ceramics, Photography, Metals, and Design, by tackling committee duties such as organizing student and professional exhibits in the Center’s gallery and in the community; reviewing
portfolios, etc.
● Maintaining strong oral and written communication with students, parents, and faculty.
● Monitoring and reporting student attendance, progress grades, and using this information for instructional adjustments and providing student support in the form of feedback, coaching, and other academic assistance.
● Providing a well-managed, safe, student-centered environment that is academically challenging and respectful.
