TENURE TRACK FACULTY POSITION IN TEXTILES
Kent State University is seeking applications for a newly established interdisciplinary faculty position in textiles, designed to foster creative learning opportunities for students in textile art, fashion and costume.
Position Description: This new position is intended to expand the fertile territory that exists among the three disciplines (and beyond.) The Schools of Art, Fashion and Theatre & Dance support traditional craft skills and technical exploration through excellent facilities that include a digital loom room with compu-dobby and TC1 looms and a TECHstyle Lab with tools for digital embroidery, knitting and printing. Recognizing the interdisciplinarity of textiles, the College of the Arts wants to further cultivate flexibility and encourage creative experimentation – conceptual and material – for students in these schools.
Interested applicants should possess experience and committed practice as a textile artist/designer/innovator. Evidence of technical expertise in textile structures (woven, felted, knitted), embellishments, print and dye processes (including natural dyeing), electronic/interactive textiles is required; along with a depth of knowledge of contemporary and historic textiles, theory, sustainability, and community engagement.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching, advising and mentoring students at the undergraduate and graduate level. Curriculum development, program administration and stewardship are also expectations.
A new faculty colleague will be expected to become a successful university citizen. This involves participating in committee work at all university levels, engaging with other schools, departments and programs within the School of Art to work collaboratively on university and/or research projects and, most importantly, by focusing on the advancement and success of our students.
Equally important is continued rigorous engagement in research and creative practice as evidenced through national and international dissemination.
Qualifications:
Applicants should have an MFA degree (or equivalent) and a strong record of professional involvement in art/design practice.
Preference will be given to candidates with at least two years’ full time teaching experience beyond the graduate assistantship as well as demonstrated professional achievement. Those possessing versatility, energy and collegiality and who are enthusiastic about participating in ongoing curricular transformation and innovative evolution of the fields of art and design are particularly sought.
