Det Vilde Spinderi is a combination of a mini spinning mill and diverse textile producing equipment and machinery, located in the Unesco Global Geopark Odsherred, Denmark, which is characterized by a fascinating composite landscape with short distances between coasts.
Det Vilde Spinderi has its origins in close dialogues with designers and artists who have sustainable textile production in mind. We wish to continue these conversations and therefore offer textile designers and artists the opportunity to be close to the production of the material (wool). We believe that research and innovation in sustainable textile production must be grounded in local materials and qualities. We are eager to contribute to such research and creativity. Therefore, we also offer machine rental with spinning mill staff to residents who want to experiment with and test new combinations of Nordic fibers for yarn and thread.
Our residency program offers a unique opportunity for artists and creatives to immerse themselves in a supportive and inspiring environment. Participants have access to dedicated studio space, where you can engage with like-minded individuals, exchange ideas, and gain new perspectives. We have a workshop for wet felting and for natural dyeing, a textile workshop with looms, sewing machines and embroidery machine, a knitting machine, needle felting and tufting workshop. Our workshops are constantly under development, so feel free to inquire about equipment. Please note that technicians will not be leading workshops. You must be trained to operate the listed equipment and machines and take full responsibility for the proper handling.
Det Vilde Spinderi boasts a spacious 180 square meter area that houses both a showroom and exhibition facilities within the workshop. Here, Det Vilde Spinderi’s own projects are exhibited, alongside collaborative works with other designers and textile artists. This space not only showcases the intricate craftsmanship of our products but also serves as a platform for creative synergy between diverse talents in the sustainable design community.
