The MAP Academy & Nalli Fellowships are currently accepting applications for research, study, and practice in the rich textile traditions of South Asia. For the year 2024–25, two grants will be awarded—one Research Fellowship and one Educator Fellowship, each with an amount of INR 5.5 lakhs. The deadline for applications is 30th September 2024.
These Fellowships combine Nalli Silks’ focus area of textile production and design, with the MAP Academy’s vision of fostering incisive research on art histories from South Asia.
The Research Fellowship invites proposals that focus on lesser-known and understudied textiles, practices, communities and histories in South Asia. It will support projects that draw on existing textiles and practices for learning or inspiration, including field research, documentation, and archives. It also encourages a critical and sensitive approach to academic and practice-based research.
The Educator Fellowship seeks proposals that disseminate and democratise knowledge about South Asian textiles through the development of curriculums, fieldwork or work with educational and cultural institutions. Proposed projects will aim to inspire diverse audiences through exhibitions, workshops, or other educational initiatives, in order to foster academic inquiry into textile-based practices or histories.
