It is with gratitude and great respect that we honor and remember Robert Lee Shep by opening nominations for the 2023 R.L. Shep Memorial Book Award. As Roy Hamilton writes in his wonderful remembrance, “TSA has lost a steadfast friend and supporter with the passing of Robert Lee Shep on December 21, 2022.”
Given annually to a publication judged to be the best book in the field of global cultural heritage textile studies, the 2023 award consists of a cash prize of $1,000 funded by an endowment established by R.L. Shep in 2000. Recent awardees include Sylvia Fraser-Lu’s Textiles in Burman Culture, Joanna Barrkman’s Aboriginal Screen-Printed Textiles from Australia’s Top End, and P. R. J. Ford’s The Persian Carpet Tradition.
Please click here to see further details on the TSA website or to nominate a book published in 2022. Nominations are due September 18, 2023 by midnight EST.
