We have some big news to share with you all. Our brilliant TSA News Digital Content Editor, Lauren Baccus, who has been with us since 2022, is moving on to focus on her other incredible projects. While we’re sad to see her go, we’re also excited for her as she embarks on new adventures. If you’ve been following TSA News over the past two years, you know just how amazing Lauren is. We can’t wait to see what she accomplishes next!
Lauren’s talents go far beyond her role at TSA. She’s a gifted textile artist, writer, and researcher whose work centers on the construction of Caribbean identity through textile, craft, and costume. She’s currently working on her Master’s in Textiles and Material Culture at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. Her work is deeply inspired by masquerade and the Caribbean’s legacy of resistance and storytelling through cloth and clothing. Her latest project, “Salt and Aloes,” is an ongoing archive of Caribbean material culture over the past century.
During her time with TSA, Lauren has been a powerful voice for our community. She’s conducted interviews with prominent artists, highlighted our members through Member Mondays, and written thought-provoking pieces like “Textile Tuesday: The Power & Potency of the U.S. Flag.” When the position of TSA News Digital Content Editor was created in 2022, Lauren was the perfect fit. Her clear vision, dedication to innovating our collective knowledge of textiles, and design eye have made TSANews what it is today.
With Lauren’s departure, we want to be transparent about the future of TSA News. You might notice a slowdown or change in our content, especially since it’s a symposium year. We don’t plan on filling Lauren’s position immediately, but there will be plenty of symposium content to keep you engaged. We appreciate your flexibility in this moment of transition.
A little history for those who might not know: TSANews used to be a physical newsletter mailed to members quarterly but moved online in 2019. COVID pushed us to adapt further, and we made shifts to increase accessibility with a new sliding-scale membership fee and virtual experiences. In 2020 we offered our first virtual symposium and are planning our second for November 2024. These shifts are ongoing and we are excited to develop these changes with you.
We want to thank Lauren for her incredible contributions to TSA and wish her all the best in her future projects. We’re sure she’ll continue to do amazing things!
Stay tuned for more updates and exciting content from TSA.
