Textiles Close Up Returns In Person
Philadelphia, PA | Wednesday, July 23, 2025

We’re thrilled to relaunch TSA’s signature in-person program, Textiles Close Up: Revolutionary Threads, with an unforgettable full-day experience in Philadelphia. Participants will enjoy behind-the-scenes access to the Museum of the American Revolution’s Banners of Liberty exhibition and George Washington’s tent, followed by a private viewing of the Artist Boxes, archival collections at The Fabric Workshop and Museum. The day concludes with an artist studio visit and talk with Adebunmi Gbadebo. A light reception will follow, providing time to connect with fellow participants and reflect on the day.

Grant Opportunity: Textile Research Travel Grant 2025
Applications Open May 20 | Deadline: June 13
Thanks to the generosity of Elena Phipps, TSA President from 2012–2014, and Alan Finkel, the Textile Society of America is pleased to announce the return of the TSA Textile Research Travel Grant for its third funding cycle.
The TSA Textile Research Travel Grant supports TSA members in traveling to conduct textile-focused research. This may include visiting museum collections, engaging with artists or weavers in their local environments, studying special exhibitions, or other research opportunities centered on the study of actual textiles. The grant may be used for travel to attend TSA’s upcoming in-person Textiles Close Up program, taking place Wednesday, July 23, 2025, in Philadelphia, PA.
Applicants may request $500–$1,000, depending on the scope of travel (local, national, or international). TSA will award a total of up to $1,000, to be disbursed across 1–2 recipients. Award levels will be determined based on need, project relevance, and travel scale.

TSA and multidisciplinary studio SUDESTADA invite you to support Contemporary Voices, a dynamic public program relaunching during New York Textile Month in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.
This hybrid event featuring an exhibition, artist talk, and panel discussion will amplify immigrant and diasporic voices in textile art while addressing sustainability and cultural preservation. This free, public event features an exhibition, artist talk, panel discussion and interactive workshop that explore the theme of migration, sustainability and community through textiles.

TSA x bftn Present a Virtual Screening + Live Conversation | Early November 2025
In collaboration with the Black Fiber & Textile Network (bftn), TSA presents a powerful virtual program featuring a short documentary uplifting the work of Black fiber producers, dyers, and textile artists. After the screening, join a live panel with bftn’s Teju Adisa-Farrar, Mahdiyyah Muhammad, and more.
Explore themes of land stewardship, ecological resilience, and cultural memory in Black-led fiber work.
