Nominate your mentors, and leaders, trailblazing artists, scholars and practitioners as
2021 Fellows of the Textile Society of America
through 31st of July 2021.
Every two years, we gather to celebrate the accomplishments of those individuals who, over the course of their careers, have made path-breaking contributions to the field in textile scholarship, education, art, scientific practices in the study of fibers and in sustaining textile arts globally.
Two Fellows of the Textile Society of America will be awarded this year to recognize and honor our mentors, our leaders and those who have dedicated their lives and work to the study, creation and preservation of textiles, and in doing so have inspired colleagues and transformed our fields.
All members are invited and encouraged to nominate colleagues whose work has altered and deeply impacted our specialties. We are especially invested in nominations that center experiences, practices and contributions that reflect the immense diversity of textile history, technology and discovery.
Nominees do not need to be nationals or residents of the United States or Canada, nor do they have to be TSA members.
Each nomination should be supported by the following:
- a brief professional biography,
- a list of seminal publications, exhibitions, or history of work,
- and any other information that documents the nominee’s important contributions to the field of textiles.
- Each nomination must also be endorsed by two additional TSA members. These nominations are reviewed and selected biennially, by a special TSA-Board appointed committee.
“Textiles have never been more robust internationally. The Fellows program affords the opportunity to acknowledge the power of textile practice and scholarship across diverse fields and pay tribute to the significant contributions to visual art, craft, design, education, and cultural discourse. I encourage TSA members to nominate those who have deeply impacted your work and life in the textile field.”
–Anne Wilson, Artist and Professor Emeritus, Department of Fiber and Material Studies, School of the Art Institute of Chicago
“Textile arts and textile scholarship have experienced a significant increase in appreciation over the last decades, both in the visual arts and the academic world, largely due to the creative and exacting leadership provided by exceptional scholars, practitioners and teachers in the textile field.“
— Ruth Barnes, Thomas Jaffe Curator of Indo-Pacific Art at the Yale University Art Gallery and former TSA Board member and chair of the Fellows Committee
“As we honor path-breaking leaders in the field, we also foreground the diverse ways that textiles are integral to human experience, emphasize the central roles that textiles play in life, and articulate our aspirations for the field as a whole.”
— Susan S. Bean, specialist in the visual arts of modern South Asia and former TSA Board member
