Dear TSA members and friends,
I am writing to inform you of the Board’s final decision to cancel our proposed in-person event scheduled for September 2021 in Boston.
We came to this decision after careful deliberation on a number of issues. We recognize that COVID-19’s effects are not yet over for many in our community. While many of us are lucky enough to be vaccinated, many countries are still seeing significant infection rates. International travel is still prohibited or unwise. Institutional budgets and staff positions have taken a hard hit. Our community has lost family members and friends.
We will now refocus our efforts on planning our next symposium for Fall 2023. This marks a departure from our typical even-year schedule, but after an unprecedented year and a half, we must take the time to rest, take stock, and begin our plans anew. This event will be focused on the advantages and positive aspects of in-person meetings, and will include a full call for papers. After the overwhelming success of our 2020 virtual symposium, we will offer possibilities for remote participation as well.
On behalf of the Board, I want to thank you each and everyone one of you for your membership, your participation, and your patience during this process. We look forward to seeing you in 2023.
Sincerely,
Melinda Watt
TSA President, 2021-2024
