Calling all emerging textile artists, researchers, curators, and makers!
The next Lab gathering is on Friday Oct. 6th at 9:30am PT/12:30pm ET/5:30pm BT via Zoom.
Do you want a chance to share your current research or studio project at the upcoming TSA colloquium, (re)Imagining Futures: Shifting Methodologies on October 30th? Attendees at the Lab gathering will co-lab-oratively jury and choose three five-minute presentations that align with the colloquium’s theme.
Presentations will be evaluated based on clarity, approaches to collaborative art making, and/or demonstration of research that is a catalyst for change in the textile community and helps reimagine an anti-racist, equitable, and accessible future for TSA.
Please RSVP by October 5th.
You do not need to present to come to this event, if you do plan on presenting, please see helpful tips and submission guidelines below.
The first SEVEN folks to submit their slides will present at the Lab gathering and have a chance to present at the colloquium! If you submit a presentation after we’ve already received seven submissions, we will work to guarantee you a spot at a future Lab gathering.
Voting will happen on Zoom via poll and presenters/attendees will be notified shortly after the end of the meeting which presentations were selected, and they will be informed of next steps.
You must be present for the entire Lab gathering to vote.
You do not need to be a member to attend or present at the Lab.
Presenters have to submit slides prior to the event. The deadline for slide submissions was September 29. You can still attend the lab if you are ot presenting.
Helpful tips for slide and Zoom presentations at the Lab
- Plan a 3-5 minute presentation. There will be time for a 3-min Q&A after each presentation.
- Include a title slide with your name, pronouns, and title of your presentation (if you have one).
- Because slides are small on people’s screens, best practice is one big image per slide when showing artwork.
- Captions for your own images are encouraged. They are required if you show other people’s artwork or copyrighted images.
- Consider including a slide with your website or other information so that people can get in touch with you later if they are interested in your talk.
- When presenting, find a quiet indoor space. If possible, use a microphone.
Peer-juried selection process
- After each presentation, voting will happen on Zoom via online poll
- Anyone who attends the Lab, whether or not they are presenting, will have an opportunity to vote
- Presenters/attendees will be notified shortly after the end of the meeting which presentations were selected
- Presentations will be evaluated based on clarity, approaches to collaborative art making and/or demonstration of research*** that is a catalyst for change in the textile community and helps reimagine an anti-racist, equitable, and accessible future for TSA.
***research doesn’t just happen in museums and libraries, although of course it often does! Research happens in studios, on the street, and during your morning commute! Research can be material, visual, embodied, performed, spoken, etc.
