The Textile Society of America (TSA) is pleased to announce that it has received a $10,000 Publishing Grant from the Decorative Arts Trust in support of its forthcoming publication, Material Memory, Futures, and Renewal: Proceedings of the Textile Society of America Colloquia, 2022–2026.
This award supports the development of a peer-reviewed, open-access digital publication documenting TSA’s multi-year colloquium series, which includes the 2022, 2023, and 2026 programs. Together, these convenings explore critical conversations in textile studies across artistic practice, scholarship, and cultural stewardship.
The Proceedings will bring together up to twenty-five full-length scholarly essays and seven shorter contributions from peer-selected fellows of TSA’s The Lab initiative. Each submission will undergo formal peer review and professional copyediting, and will include high-resolution images. An editor selected through an open call and appointed by a committee composed of TSA’s Board and its members will oversee the review and editorial process.
In addition to individual essays, the publication will include a fully designed contextual volume documenting the full colloquia series. This component will include editorial framing, contributor biographies, abstracts, and program documentation, providing a comprehensive record of the series’ evolving scholarly and artistic dialogue.
Together, these materials will be published as a unified open-access resource through the University of Nebraska–Lincoln Digital Commons, ensuring long-term preservation, global accessibility, and continued engagement with TSA’s scholarship.
The Decorative Arts Trust grant will directly support essential editorial and production costs, including copyediting, design, formatting, and digital preparation for publication. “This support allows TSA to expand access to rigorous, peer-reviewed scholarship while preserving an important multi-year record of artistic and academic exchange,” said TSA Executive Director, Ashley Occhino. “We are grateful to all who have been involved in each of the colloquia and to the Decorative Arts Trust for recognizing the value of this work and its contributions to the field.”
Publication development is underway, with an editorial open call scheduled for August 3, 2026 and peer review beginning following the Fall 2026 Colloquium. Registration for the virtual Fall 2026 on October 8th is now open, click here to sign up. Final publication is anticipated in Fall 2027.
TSA extends its gratitude to the Decorative Arts Trust for its support and for its continued commitment to scholarship in the decorative arts and material culture. Click here for a PDF of the Decorative Arts Trust announcement.
